Vikings new retro team shirts debut at the 2025 MSNSW State LC Championships

Report by Anne Smyth

On the weekend of 29/30 March 2025, 21 swimmers from Tuggeranong Masters ventured to Sydney Olympic Park to participate in the Masters Swimming NSW State Long Course Championships.

Our new retro shirts!

We decided to go retro again with our club branding in 2025 …. and we got to show off our new ‘Take A Liking To A Viking’ 2025 red and navy t-shirts on pool deck for the first time!

Our club finished 3rd overall in the point score - a terrific effort, considering the size and depth of the Sydney Clubs.

The focus on sprint training over the past few months certainly produced positive outcomes.

All team members performed well, with many recording PBs or faster swims than they had swum for a while.

Highlights

  • Elizabeth placed third in the female swimmer of the meet point score, despite only swimming on one day!

  • Paul swam in his first meet and smashed his times by incredible margins.

  • Beth collected medals in in her 75-79 age group 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle.

  • Kristi, Liesl and Lucy recorded some new PBs, and Anne S, Ann R, Caz, Chris C, Chris M, Donna, Jeanette and Leisa all recorded solid times, and some same faster than they have for a while! Elaine (Lainey) was still adjusting to swimming events in LC metres instead of yards, but swam some excellent times.

  • Andrew, Graham, Ian, Josh, Kerry, Richard all recorded quality swims in their events, adding points to Tuggeranong’s club score.

It was a great team effort from all, and the team enjoyed relaxing over a few drinks and dinner each night, with a few attending the MSNSW Presentation Dinner.

Anne Smyth was delighted to be jointly awarded the Gary Stutsel Award for her contribution to the advancement of Masters Swimming in NSW for 2024 along with Suzie Haddad from Campbelltown Masters.
